Manasarovar

Lake Manasarovar, Photo by Wolfgang

For those who do not know, Manasarovar is a lake known for its high spiritual values in both Hinduism and Buddhism, in Tibetan region of Himalayas. It lies at 14,940 feet above sea level and is the highest fresh water lake in the world. Manasarovar was supposedly created by the Hindu God, Brahma in his mind (manas for mind, sarovar for lake), hence the name. It is also believed the Devas (Gods) descend to bathe in the lake between 3 and 5 am the time of the day known as Brahma Muhurta. Kailash (Mount Kailash; abode of Hindu God Shiva) and Manasarovar Yatra is known to all pilgrims for its spiritual value. I have always wanted to visit Manasarovar, and someday may be the wish will materialize.

I was watching a Documentary on Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra a few days ago, and the Divine Himalayas inspired me to pick up my Guitar and I ended up recording this tune. It’s more of an improv work based around Classical Indian Raagas. Just a random musing. Here is the MP3 link. May peace be on you in the new year and years to come!

You sure sound very inspired. Your guitar sounded like a sitar. Methinks you should try your hand at learning the sitar as well. But then if you can make the guitar sound like a sitar, what is the need?

Great stuff. It was enchanting . Keep it up.

Its amazing gautam… I agree with Anupam’s comment..it indeed sounded like sitar..It fills one’s mind with a soothing air…I would say the correct way to listen to it is to sit back, close the eyes and just concentrate on the ripples the song spreads in the air…It brings back a morning’s freshness no matter at what time u listen to it..

It is so serene looking at that picture. I hope I will make plans when I visit India next time!! In fact, I have seen a video of this place a long time ago when a spiritual leader (ChinnaJiyar Swami) visited here. And by the way, you have an amazing talent on the guitar…I just could not believe that tune was played on the guitar!! Way to go!!! Keep it up…pal

    Wow Gautam…
I really agree with what’s been said already. Definitely could not tell it was a guitar being used, and not sitar.
That is some talent, keep up the good work!

    =)
