I went to the Delhi Book fair yesterday and got some rare Urdu Poetry books. This one is from a book by not so well-known Urdu Poet and Script-writer, Rahi Masoom Raza. I remember my dad telling me how he sang (to escape ragging) a Ghazal by Rahi when he was a freshman in college back in the 60s. Ever since, I’ve been looking for a book by Rahi. I found this nazm to be very poignant. It just shows the intensity of pain and anguish. Coincidentally, I too wrote a Nazm by the same title, though it had a different theme. Enjoy this piece.
