Here is a Ghazal by a noted contemporary Shayar, Ibrahim Ashq. It is taken from his book, Alaav – which I bought at a book fair at Rohtak during my stay in India. Enjoy!

For those who can’t read Hindi, here is the romanized form:

Teri judai ne is dil ko dardmand kiya
Bichad ke tujhse tujhe aur bhee pasand kiya

Ye sochte hain ke khole na umr bhar aankhen
Ke hamne tere tasavvur ko inme band kiya

Ye inteqhaab e nazar sabko mil nahi sakta
Hai khud pe naaz ke hamne tumhe pasand kiya

Hazaaron phool khile mere dil ke sahraa me
Tere labon ne tabassum jo mand mand kiya

Siva khuda ke kisi dar pe sar nahi jhukta
Khudi ne ashq mujhe kis qadar buland kiya.
