Mashq e Sukhan
January 11th, 2009
After a very long time, some verses descended upon me this afternoon and I was able to compose them in form of a short Ghazal. I think amongst Nazms and songs, Ghazals took the back seat somewhere along the line. Not to mention, it is much more draining to write a Ghazal. So, after Chale Jaate Hain, which came last year, here is my new work “Mashq e Sukhan” which means “continued efforts to write and compose”.
I would like to dedicate this Ghazal to some of the revered Shayars from the Progressive Writers era of early 1900s, notably Hasrat Mohani, Jigar Moradabadi, Majaaz Lucknawi and Firaq Gorakhpuri. Comments and critique are both welcome. I might record a recitation sometime too.

This one shows signs of progressive maturity in your poetry. No kid stuff here.

वोह दिल्ली की याद कभी भुला न सके
I thought this was apt … original hai !!

Dear Gautam,
Thanks for reconnecting. ‘Mashq-e-Sukhan’ is a solid composition
with a lot of depth. It is literary in its choice of verse and intense
in its appeal. Indeed its overwhelming.
AAFREEN !! AAFREEN !! Continue with all your passion.

Phir wahi sawal
Har khwahish har armaan,
teri chaukhat pe aake rukta hai
wahi purana baarish ka mausam
Phir gungunane ki chaah rakhta hai
Teri dhoop mei baitha hun
ek patli chaadar odh ke
Baadlon ne kuch chaanv bikheri
To tera sooraj takta hai
Dekhte dekhte shaam hui
to tune sooraj bhuja diya
Raat ko thoda rangeen banane
ko ek chaand jagmaga diya
Kuch hairat hai par Gairat hai
yeh nahi koi ayyari
Meri deewar par teri tasveer
ki hai kuch yeh karagari
Bunta hun phir soch mei
tera ek aur khayal
Kya tha pahle se yah behtar
Karta khud se phir wahi sawal

Wordly love can be like an ocean.Yet , the ocean has a bottom.
Divine love is like the sky..limitless , infinite.
From the bottom of the ocean , let’s soar into the vast sky !!!!
