Hurt
April 27th, 2007

I have never been a huge fan of Johnny Cash, but I very much like his rendition of the song “Hurt“. Apparently, he recorded his version of the song (originally by another rock band) and it shows Cash’s view of his past and feelings of regret.
I recorded it this morning after I woke up – on my Indian acoustic guitar hence the hoarseness in my voice! Enjoy my first recording from Rohtak (India). If you are having issues with the player, click here for the MP3.
Recording is a bit choppy, not sure why.

Words:
I hurt myself today to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain the only thing that’s real
The needle tears a hole the old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away but I remember everything
What have I become my sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away in the end
And you could have it all my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns upon my liar’s chair
Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time the feelings disappear
You are someone else I am still right here
What have I become my sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away in the end
And you could have it all my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way.

That sounds good rusty, doesn’t even sound like you. We need to get you some good microphones.
